Surgeons Pushing Intracameral Cefuroxime in Cataract Surgery

May 25, 2011

Ocular Surgery News: Czech high volume cataract surgeons reported ZERO endophthalmitis after 9,000 cases. No post-op antibiotics were used. They attribute their success to intracameral cefuroxime. I believe Dr. Mackool does the same and also has an extremely low infection rate. I also assume all these surgeons use Betadine, which is standard a the world over. I think it’s time the U.S. adopted this method- it would cut costs of infection and post-op antibiotics.
