When should one employ argon laser trabeculoplasty to treat glaucoma?

February 24, 2009

I typically start on a prostaglandin, but I often offer my patients the option of going straight to ALT. Most prefer to try meds first. But considering how poor compliance is ( a recent study showed that even when patients knew they were electronically monitored, they still missed 50% of their drops!),  I kinda push patients into ALT instead of going to a second drop. The reimbursement doesn’t hurt, of course, but I truly think it’s in their best interest. I wonder what other ophthalmologists are doing.
