Ophthalmology: Many of us implant yellow (blue-blocking) IOL’s ( I use Acrysof SN60WF) instead of clear, in order to reduce the risk of macular degeneration. There has been some controversy about it, with some maintaining we are robbing patients of some night vision with no clear benefit. A study demonstrated a very significant maintenance of macular pigment- presumably a risk factor for macular degeneration- two years after yellow IOL’s compared to clear.
