Is Post-LASIK Ectasia Common With Thin Corneas?

A retrospective study (looking at eyes for 24 months) found, contrary to popular opinion and other studies, that post-lasik ectasia is not more common in thin corneas, as long as the topography is normal. Perhaps in other studies, thin corneas were subtle manifestations of keratoconus. Ectasia can occur after 24 months, so no definitive statement can be made at this time. But lasik surgeons may be more willing now to offer lasik in these patients instead of PRK or implants.
