Intravitreal injection of plasmin was effective in precipitating PVD. PVD is helpful prior to vitrectomy, and thus might be injected on a wide basis if this study (April’s Ophthalmology) is borne out in larger subsequent studies. PVD also obviated the need for vitrectomy in this study, as the PVD was enough to allow resolution of vitreomacular traction and macular hole. At this rate, all surgery as we know it will be an anachronism.
