Is the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II Only Good at Identifying Glaucoma, or Also Reliable for Ruling it Out?

An article in Ophthalmology confirms what many of us suspected- the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT) II is good at identifying glaucoma, but is is not reliable to rule it out. I think we all realize that it’s a neat tool that impresses patients, and may be helpful in longitudinal observations, but that’s pretty much it. I don’t think it ever found glaucoma in a patients where my suspicion was low to begin with. As usual, one’s clinical impression is what counts. So we won’t be replaced by robots just yet.
