Can Avastin Improve Cystoid Macular Edema (CME)?

In a small study published in Ophthalmology, researchers have found that Avastin® (bevacizumab) may be helpful in the treatment of cystoid macular edema (CME). Patients with CME were treated for one year and received up to six intraocular injections of bevacizumab. Visual acuity and macular thickness were tracked.
After one year, 72% of the patients had improvement in visual acuity. No patients lost vision.
This was a small retrospective study, but the results are promising.
