Potential Nanotechnology Answer to Malfunctioning Retina
May 6, 2009
In a recent article in Mass High Tech describing current research in the New England area on combating age-related macular degeneration, one part of the article aroused my interest. It mentioned work underway at Boston College and the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester in trying to address AMD and other eye diseases with nano-structural retinal implants. As explained by Michael Naughton, a professor of physics at BC, these tiny devices are to placed in the eye to take the place of the malfunctioning rods and cones in the retina.
I am trying to contact Professor Naughton, and if successful, hope to report more on this exciting development.
