Diabetes is becoming an epidemic in the United States. According to a study recently published in the Archives of Ophthalmology, the prevalence of retinopathy, glaucoma and other vision problems related to diabetes is projected to rise dramatically over the next four decades. Currently, more than 17 million Americans suffer from diabetes. Of these people, one-third is tragically unaware that they have the disease.With a comprehensive eye examination, an eye specialist can detect and diagnose diabetes and start patients on the road to treatment for the disease.
