Ophthalmology: An eight year study of physicians who were given vitamin E and C supplements, and there was no effect on the development of macular degeneration (AMD) . Now, we know from AREDSĀ that supplements can help a minority of patients with dry AMD by slightly reducing the conversion to wet AMD. But as I have been telling patients for years, there is scant evidence that vitamins, in general, are helpful, and that they ought to focus more on nutrition.
