Geneticists Examining Link Between Glaucoma and WDR36 Gene

The Edmonton Sun reportedResearchers have long suspected a link between the WDR36 gene and glaucoma.

The Edmonton Sun reported Friday that Dr. Michael Walter, Chair of the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta, has discovered that mutations in the WDR36 gene only cause glaucoma when mutations of other genes are also present.

The hope is that further study of these mutations will lead to a greater understanding of the causes of glaucoma, and thus better diagnosis and treatment for affected individuals.
