From Reed Tinsley’s medical practice management blog comes three helpful tips to track copay collections.
Briefly, Tinsley recommends:
- making sure that office staff follows their roles religiously when it comes to collecting and accounting for co-pays;
- balancing copays twice a day (once after the morning session and then at the end of the day); and
- deploying a check-and-balance system for each person involved with copays to ensure an audit trail of who checked which patients in.
In the end, Tinsley advises, nothing should proceed to the billing office without the copays balancing, so you can make sure you’ve captured every copay.
