Treatment Options for 67 YO Patient With History of Detached Retina and Cataracts

July 11, 2011

Eight years ago, following surgery to correct a macular hole in my left eye, my retina detached twice. I had it repaired, but then the eye developed a cataract, which was removed a few months later. My vision in that eye is still distorted, i.e. lines are not straight and i cannot read since vision is still blurred.

I am 67 years old and short sighted.

Any thoughts on treatment options?

your retinal surgeon can give you an opinion whether further surgery to smooth out the macula would be of any benefit. if so, get a second opinion to be sure. to be honest, after 3 operations, the chances are slim.
