Laser irodotomy for pigmentary glaucoma?

June 23, 2011

Is laser iridotomy a recommended procedure for someone with pigmentary glaucoma?

I have read that there are several risks and possible side effects with this procedure.

for a long time,it was thought the iridotomy would be helpful, but an article this year in one of the journals suggested it doesn’t help. however, that article had short follow-up. i still think that in patients who are demonstrating glaucoma from pigment dispersion should have it. if there is no glaucoma, i think it may not be worth it, even though the risks are really negligible.
