Can Acupressure Promote Visual Health in Kids?

December 2, 2010

An article in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine suggests that acupressure on the ear increased vision in kids. The study was very weak. Measuring vision in kids is not an exact science and is utterly subjective. Also, the vision in the treatment group actually got worse- just not as worse as the control group. Lastly, I don’t know what the control group was- did this group get nothing or “phony” acupressure. Anyway, an excellent article a few years back which compared pain relief in acupuncture and “phony” acupuncture showed no difference. I think it’s safe to say that the placebo effect is just too strong to make any scientific conclusion.
