Should I Use Cosopt to Manage Glaucoma?
October 5, 2010
I’m 46 years old and have Fuch’s dystrophy in my right eye since I was 20.
I was operated on for a cataract and I now experience pain due to glaucoma.
I am now using COSOPT (5ml), twice a day, for the glaucoma.
My question is will I now have to use Cosopt for the rest of my life to manage my glaucoma?

eye drops can sometimes cause the heart and lungs to function a little less effectively- you may feel a little tired, or you may have some difficulty breathing if you have asthma. it cannot damage these organs, and the risk is certainly worth it for the sake of your vision.
I HAVE GLAUCOMA FOR OVER TEN YEARS NOW AND I HAVE LOST VISION ON MY RIGHT EYE, I HAVE HAD SURGERY ON MY BOTH EYES SEVEN YEARS AGO,THE DOCTOR I WAS USEING BEFORE IN MY COUNTRY WAS NOT DOING THE RIGHT SO I LOST VISION ON MY RIGHT EYES, NOW I GOT LAST YEAR I GOT A NEW DOCTOR I UK WHOM HAS HELPED ME TO REDUCE THE PRESSURE ON MY EYES, BUT MY FEAR IS THAT THE EYE DROPS TABLETS HE RECOMMEND FOR ME WHICH I AM USEING IS MANY AND COULD CAUSE OTHER SICKNESS LIKE KIDNEE OR HEART PROBLEM
not sure why you got glaucoma after cataract surgery- typically, the pressure spike after surgery lasts a few days at most, and that is not glaucoma. also, glaucoma is typically painless- i dont know why you are having pain.
if you have glaucoma, then yes, its a lifelong disease. if you are simply taking the cosopt to mange the pressure spike, then you won’t be using it for more than a few days. glaucoma after cataract surgery can mean the surgery was complicated.
you may want to get a second opinion about the pain- more likely, its due to corneal decompensation after the surgery due to the fuch’;s, not glaucoma.
