New Treatment for Posterior Blepharitis?

September 27, 2009

I recently read the informaton by Dr. Ari Weitzner regarding posterior blepharitis, meibomian gland disease regarding a special probe developed by Dr. Maskin which clears the obstruction of the glands.  It stated the probes are now commercially available.  Where can I find more information regarding the probes?  And, who is Dr. Maskin?

I have been diagnosed with MGD (meibomian gland dysfunction) and DES (dry eye syndrome), and have had 2 eyelid probing prodedures done by an Ophthalmologist in Kansas City, MO. It has helped to release the oils in the glands. It can take several probing sessions to achieve more lasting results. My continued treatments each day consist of warm compresses and eyelid squeezing, lubricant drops, doxycycline, and Restasis. I do get relief with this combined treatment plan.

  • Yes, the probes are available now, at least in the US. For those that are interested, Dr. Maskin shared a video demonstration of the Maskin Meibomian Gland Intraductal Probes with Eyetube.net. http://eyetube.net/v.asp?rederr
