Do Blue-filtering IOLs Reduce Glare Disability Compared to Clear IOLs?

August 26, 2009

Masked researchers tested photostress recovery and visual acuity under veiling glare conditions in 17 subjects with yellow IOLs (Alcon’s AcrySof Natural SN60WF), 20 subjects with clear IOLs and 21 phakic controls. Subjects in both IOL groups could withstand significantly more light than the phakic controls without losing sight of the target. Subjects with yellow IOLs could withstand significantly more light than those with clear IOLs (P< .02). But there was no statistically significant difference in photostress recovery between the two IOL groups. American Journal of Ophthalmology, August 2009.
