Glitazones Worsen Diabetic Macular Edema

June 3, 2009

We need to be on the lookout for this class of diabetic meds, glitazones (Actos and Avandia), as an article in the AJO strongly suggests they are associated with worse diabetic macular edema. The study involved 170,000 diabetes patients by Kaiser Permanente, so the data looks solid. I suppose we should write a letter to the referring PCP so he can consider changing meds in these patients.
