New Indications for the Femtosecond Laser in Eye Surgery

In the June 10th issue of Ocular Surgery News, just published online, Richard Lindstrom discusses new indications for femtosecond lasers. In addition to the now accepted use of the laser for producing flaps for LASIK, Dr. Lindstrom mentions some of the potential future applications, including in the anterior segment in place of a trephine for keratoplasty; the creation of intrastromal incisions for correcting astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia and even presbyopia (think IntraCOR); and the early work being done by LenSx in using the laser for removing cataracts.
