Floxin Eye Drops or Doxcycline Oral Antibiotics for Pink Eye?

February 8, 2013

I caught pink eye from my boyfriend and I went to a doctor who prescribed floxin antibiotic eye drops.

I have been using it for 4 days and the pink eye doesn’t seem to going away .

My boyfriend was prescribed doxcycline oral antibiotics.

I am wondering if that is what I need to take.

all pinkeye, by definition, goes away sooner or later, regardless of whether its treated or not. for sure, treating viral pinkeye will have no effect. wait a few more days

In adults, the majority of eye infections are viral; antibiotic drops won’t help. If you’ve been using an antibiotic drop from the ‘floxacin’ family and your eye hasn’t improved within a few days, that confirms that it isn’t a susceptible bacteria. Oral antibiotics aren’t usually necessary for infections that don’t involve the eyelid.
