EyeNet:  There is a fascinating case report of a nine year old girl with poor vision in both eyes, loss of visual field and loss of color vision. A very mild optic nerve pallor was noted, and the suspicion was for some kind of hereditary optic neuropathy, even though there was no family history. Upon further questioning, the doctors discovered that the mother was applying Lindane shampoo for lice- even though it should be used sparingly, she applied it almost every day. The shampoo was discontinued, and years later, when examined at age 40, her exam was normal.
