EyeWorld- Dr. Wong has come up with a clever way to ensure good watertight closure of corneal wound in phaco. He makes a simple uniplanar incision about 1 mm anterior to his phaco incision, but not full thickness. At the end of surgery, he hydrates this incision, which has the effect of pushing down the anterior lip of the phaco incision against the posterior lip, making it more watertight. Of course, one can decide later in the case if this incision is necessary. Quick. Simple. Low tech. Elegant.
