Is Glaucoma Eye Drop Compliance an Issue?

Posted By Dr. Ari Weitzner On March 19, 2009 @ 6:51 pm In Glaucoma | Comments Disabled

I read recently in a study that among patients who knew their compliance was being monitored via electronics in the bottle, the compliance was about 40%! Imagine when the patient is not being monitored, and is taking two or three drops! It’s a miracle more patients are not going blind. I strongly urge my patients now, if they need more than one drop, to go to ALT or Phaco, or at the very least, go to a combination drop like Combigan or Cosopt. Otherwise, I don’t think we are doing anybody any favors by looking away from the charade of patients taking their drops.
