Omega 3 for Anterior Basement Membrane Dystrophy?

October 27, 2011

I have anterior basement membrane dystrophy.

Drops are not really helping any more.  I also have slight cataract problems too.

I am now starting to take 3 capsules of Omega 3s and was wondering if this could help?

I would sure like to get back to my art work and also reading again.

doxy good for tear film in meibomian gland disease. the vitamins- not indicated for basement membrane dystrophy, and i know of no good data that it promotes corneal integrity in patients with no vitamin deficiency. (i have little faith in vitamins in general. good article in wall street journal last week also discussed the lack of any good evidence that vitamin supplements are of any value whatsoever.)

  • Non-surgical alternatives would also include oral doxycycline and/or oral vitamin C (1000mg daily) and vitamin E (400IU); both have proven helpful in promoting corneal integrity. Drops are still important – make sure you check with your eye doctor to ensure that you are using the correct type of artificial tear, and that any other treatments mentioned here are appropriate for your specific situation.

they are good for dry eye.
your best bet, if you are really having a lot of trouble, is laser prk to polish the cornea. go to a corneal specialist for an opinion
