Hydrogel Bandage More Comfortable; Also Handy In Trabs

Researchers compared the Resure Ocular Bandage (Ocular Therapeutix, Bedford, Mass) to collagen shields for post-op cataract surgery comfort. It wasn’t even close- 78 to 26%. Collagen shields fell out of favor a while ago- lasted only 24 hours, and they became a little brittle as they dissolved.  The only problem here is cost- I doubt we can provide these amenities with falling fees. Patients will have to grin and bear it, I’m afraid, or offer to pay. The bandage has also been shown to be helpful in trabs, where it’s placed on the limbus and sutures, creating a comfortable water-tight seal with fewer sutures.
