Ophthalmology: Here’s an interesting, counter-intuitive article. One would think (and we have for decades) that in a disease like retinal vein occlusion, that a blood thinner like aspirin or Plavix would be helpful, just like in coronary artery disease. Well, turns out it makes it worse- it just makes the vein occlusion more bloody with poorer vision.  This held true in ischemic and non0ischemic vein occlusions. The authors feel that of course, the heart takes precedence, and patients with vein occlusions taking aspirin for heart disease should continue. Otherwise, it should be stopped and/or not initiated.
