Head Down Position Following Vitrectomy for Macular Hole

August 18, 2011

I had a vitrectomy July 12, and spent one week in the head down position.

At my 4 week check, the doctor told me that the hole has not healed yet.  I was told to spend two hours a day in the head down position while I still have the gas bubble in my eye.

I return to the doctor in one month.  Do you think this additional time in the head down position will heal my macular hole?

maybe! if it were hopeless, i would think the surgeon would not recomend it.
try not to worry, and see what happens. repeat surgery for macular hole is not rare, regardless of head positioning.
