Interview: The LenSx Femtosecond Laser for Cataract Surgery

Saw this interesting interview with Dr. Kerry Solomon, a cataract and LASIK surgeon at Physicians’ Eye Surgery Center in Charleston, South Carolina, which is one of the first practices in the United States to acquire a LenSx femtosecond laser from Alcon (currently costing $500,000-600,000).

Dr. Solomon called the LenSx laser a breakthrough for cataract patients on par with LASIK. While the LenSx laser is used on cataract patients with low amounts of astigmatism, and patients with high amounts of astigmatism need a Toric intraocular lens, the lens only corrects in half-diopter steps while the LenSx can make further adjustments.
