Visualization of Living Rods and Cones in Retina

Researchers at the University of Rochester, along with colleagues at two other research institutes have found a way to use adaptive optics to visualize the rods and cones in a living retina. Some of these researchers had previously used this technique to look at living RPE cells.

This breakthrough in visualization of the retinal cells in the living eye might have implications in both the early detection of retinal diseases and also in their treatment.
