Femtosecond Laser Poses Challenge to LASIK

Using the femtosecond laser, a new procedure is challenging Lasik. Instead of vaporizing, the laser cuts a small corneal lenticule (contact lens shape), and then a small incision is made in the cornea to remove the lenticule, thus avoiding making a flap. Accuracy was excellent in a study of 51 eyes by Dr. Rupal Shah, with no patients losing 2 or more lines of vision.
