Is There a Genetic Cause for Fuch’s Dystrophy?

Researchers feel they have discovered the genetic cause of Fuch’s Dystrophy, a common corneal disease that often leads to corneal transplant. The gene is called TC4- having two copies of this gene meant a 30-fold risk of getting the disease. As with many diseases, once the genetic link is made, a treatment may be easier to devise. Of course, it is a very long process until that point, so a treatment is not in the immediate future.
