OPHTEC Rolls Out VacuFix For Implanting Artisan Lenses

Posted By Dr. Ari Weitzner On March 20, 2011 @ 12:26 pm In New Technologies,Refractive | Comments Disabled

OPHTEC has come out with the new VacuFix, a new gizmo for inserting the Artisan lenses. The Artisan lenses are iris-fixated lenses, good when capsular support is unavailable, or when the natural lens is still in the eye, and the patient desires an implant instead of wearing glasses/contact lenses. A small amount of of iris tissue is “pinched” by the new instrument (attached to the phaco machine, using vacuum) and carefully brought into the “claws” of the lens. This makes the process easier and more reproducible.
