Is High Myopia a Risk Factor for Retinal Detachment After Cataract Surgery?

One of the largest studies on this issue (retrospective, 2,356 eyes) suggests that the rate of retinal detachment after cataract surgery in high myopes (greater than 27 mm) was no different than if no cataract surgery was performed. Some argue that there is not enough good data about the true rate of retinal detachment in this population to know for sure. Young males have the highest rate. I suspect there will still be controversy about this.
