Kentucky Governor Signs Law Allowing Optometrists to Perform Eye Surgery

We previously reported that the Kentucky Senate had passed a bill  that would allow optometrists to perform some uncomplicated medical procedures [1] now reserved for ophthalmologists such as removing non-cancerous skin tags from eyelids or clearing lenses implanted by ophthalmologists in cataract surgeries.

Three weeks later, the legislation was signed by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and is now law.
