NYT 2/28/2011: An article describes a growing problem- very powerful laser pointers can be easily purchased, even though the energy of these lasers is many times more powerful than what is considered safe by the FDA. The burn to the retina can be permanent and cause a blind spot in the center of the vision-it’s very serious.
