Is CyberKnife Effective in Treating Eye Tumors?

Archives: The CyberKnife is an image-guided technique of delivering radiation to specific locations in and around the eye while sparing adjacent tissues, so side effects are dramatically reduced. In a recent study of 14 eyes to evaluate efficacy, patient tolerance, and adverse effects of CyberKnife radiosurgery for the treatment of intraocular and periocular lymphoma, treatment was finished in only five days and all the patients are still free of tumors 23 months later.

  • CyberKnife is unique in that it utilizes a small particle accelerator to produce radiation and a robotic arm that precisely directs the radiation toward any body part. A feature known as RoboCouch allows for better positioning of the patient during treatment. It is more accurate and reliable than other radiotherapy systems.
