Dr. E. C. Lazzaro, a distinguished ophthalmologist in Brooklyn and a professor at SUNY/Downstate Medical Center, has been advocating an elevated head during sleep for glaucoma patients as an easy and effective way to reduce IOP. An article in Ophthalmology confirms it- patients sleeping at a 30 degree angle had a 3 point drop in IOP- many had a 20% drop. I think it’s time we all tell our glaucoma patients to do the same.
