Does Avastin Improve AMD?

A recent randomized clinical trial showed that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) improved significantly during a year of off-label therapy with bevacizumab (Avastin).

In particular, ten times as many patients had at least a 15-letter improvement in visual acuity at one year compared with patients treated with standard therapy, while more than 90% of Avastin-treated patients had less than a 15-letter decline in visual acuity compared with 67% of the control group.
