According to MedPage Today, researchers recently reported that intraocular lenses (IOLs) match excimer laser surgery for vision correction while presenting fewer safety issues.

In a nutshell, researchers stated that the results of their systematic review suggest that phakic IOLs are safer than excimer laser surgical correction for moderate to high myopia in the range of -6.0 to -20.0 diopters [D]. Patients also preferred the IOL’s over laser surgery.

In terms of risks, endothelial cell loss did not differ between the groups treated with IOL’s and those treated with lasers.
