Don’t Be Afraid of AC IOL’s

In Retinal Physician, there is a reassuring article explaining what many studies have shown in recent years, namely, that today’s AC IOL’s are excellent alternatives to sutured PC IOL’s, and in fact may be better (in patients without glaucoma). There are several risks to sutured PC IOL’s, including longer operating times, ciliary body trauma, late breaks of sutures etc., whereas AC IOL’s are easy to implant and well tolerated. So, there is no need to be a “hero” when the bag is compromised. On the other hand, check out in Eyetube or Youtube of a great technique of fixating the haptics in scleral tunnels if you do place a PC IOL.
