Researchers Successfully Transplant Cultured Endothelial Cells in DSAEK

In rabbits, scientists successfully transplanted cultured human endothelial cells in a DSAEK procedure. Healing was slow, and the transplanted cells were not as good as donor cells, but the procedure could definitely be considered a success. This has enormous implications in an area where donor tissue is very hard to come by. Clearly, cultured cells, in general, is the future, and one day soon, the idea of donor tissue will be an anachronism.
