Does Placing an Ahmed Valve in Patients with Corneal Disease Cause Endothelial Cell Loss?

One has to be careful placing an Ahmed valve in patients with corneal disease- endothelial cell loss increased in year two compared to year one post valve, which suggests an ongoing process. Cell counts would seem to be advisable and patients need to be advised of corneal failure if they are at high risk if a valve must be placed.
