Atropine to Retard Myopia Progression

I wonder if anyone is using Atropine in kids to reduce the progression of myopia. I know that recent studies suggest it does, indeed, have a modest effect- about a diopter if I am not mistaken. But we don’t have long term data, and a recent article suggests that once the Atropine is stopped, the myopia tends to regress- therefore, it would seem that treatment requires a very long commitment, perhaps ten years depending on how old the patient is. I haven’t heard any mothers asking me about it, and I tend to be conservative, so I think I’ll wait this one out.
